Destin History and Fishing Museum

Stop by the Destin History and Fishing Museum on your next visit to Destin.Destin has really grown over the years from its humble roots as a small fishing village off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Now the city is one of the top rated vacation destinations in the country, offering top of the line restaurants, hotels and shopping for everyone choosing to visit in Destin. However, just because the town itself has grown, that does not mean Destin has forgotten its roots.

One of the best places for guests wanting to experience the yesteryear history of this budding town is to visit the Destin History and Fishing Museum. Only during a visit in Destin at this museum will guests find the large collection of antique fishing reels and rods, including the split bamboo with Penn Reel once owned by Ernest Hemingway himself.

While touring through the historic memorabilia, be sure to take a moment and look at the vintage photographs that decorate the museum. These images capture the early settlers, boat captains and businesses that lay the foundation for Destin to grow. This historical museum also showcases The Primrose. Built in 1925, The Primrose is the oldest shipping boat still in existence.

Museum hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and members of the military and $3 for children. Children 6-years-old and younger are free. All admission costs go towards the museum’s preservation.

The Destin History and Fishing Museum is located just a short 11 minute drive from Henderson Park Inn at 108 Stahlman Avenue directly off of Highway 98.
