Visiting Destin, Florida this August is the perfect way to soak up some fun in the sun before summer ends! August brings tropical weather to the Emerald Coast and fewer crowds when the school year begins. To help you make the most of your vacation, the Henderson Park Inn has put together a guide to the top four things to do in Destin FL in August.
1. Go for a Swim
With average highs around 90 °F and lows around 75 °F, Destin offers its warmest weather in August. The dog days of summer are a wonderful time to go for a swim! Guests at the Henderson Park Inn will be able to splash around in the emerald green waters of our private white sand beach.
The Gulf’s water temperature is typically in the 80s during August, so you definitely won’t need to brace yourself before wading into the sea. When you stay at the Henderson Park Inn, you can also go for a dip at the swimming pools located at our sister property across the street.
2. Enjoy Live Music at The Village of Baytowne Wharf
Listening to live music is another one of our favorite things to do in Destin FL in August. Every Wednesday, The Village of Baytowne Wharf hosts a free concert from 7 to 9 p.m. Featuring some of the best bands from around Destin and the Florida Panhandle, these concerts are always a ton of fun. In addition to the Wednesday night concerts, The Village will also have live music on August 1st, 4th, 8th, 11th, and 12th from 7 to 10 p.m.
3. Watch a Free Comedy Hypnosis Show
If you’re looking for some laughs during your vacation, you’ll definitely want to head to the “Hypnosis Gone Wild” show at the Rockett Theater in the HarborWalk Village! Running every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 p.m., this hilarious show stars the legendary comedy hypnotist Terry Stokes.
In this 50 minute show aimed at adults, Stokes keeps the audience in stitches by hypnotizing volunteers and convincing them to perform ridiculous antics on stage. Instead of a set admission fee, the “Hypnosis Gone Wild” show allows guests to pay what they want.
4. Visit Crab Island
Crab Island is one of the most popular places to visit in Destin. This underwater sandbar is the Emerald Coast’s premier party destination, offering inflatable slides, floating food vendors, frequent live music, and many more fun things to do. The sea level at Crab Island is waist deep for most adults, which makes August a great time to visit since the water is so warm.
The only way to access Crab Island is via boat. Fortunately, Sunventure Cruises offers convenient Crab Island excursions throughout the summer. For more information, check out our guide to the 5 Best Boat Tours in Destin.
