Not sure what there is to do in Destin? While the area boasts a quiet beach town feeling, there’s still plenty of excitement to partake in during your time here. But, we know that most visitors are looking for authentic, local opinions on the best things to do in Destin for adults, so we caught up with a few members of our breakfast crew to find out what their personal favorites are. Here are five things to do in Destin for adults as told by members of our breakfast staff:
Greg: Fishing
Did you know Destin is known as the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village? And it’s home to the largest charter fishing fleet in the country. While Chef Greg grew up in a sportsman’s paradise, Louisiana, one of his favorite things to do in Destin for adults is to go fishing. You can try your hand surf fishing on our beach or charter a boat and drop a line in some of the best fishing spots in the Gulf.
Preston: Visit Crab Island
This sand bar between Destin and Okaloosa Island has quickly become one of the biggest gathering spots in our area with many taking trips to Destin specifically to partake in all the excitement Crab Island offers. Hop on a boat and drop an anchor to sunbathe and wade in the water. You can rent a pontoon boat from the harbor or jump on a Crab Island cruise to experience all the water-based fun it offers.
Lance: Enjoy a Drink at O’Quigley’s
While Lance said he loves working Happy Hour at Henderson Park Inn, one of his favorite things to do in Destin for adults is to sip a cold PBR or a nice cocktail at O’Quigley’s Seafood Steamer and Oyster Sports Bar. It’s a perfect local place to enjoy some tasty seafood and a great drink with friends, and it’s just moments away from the Inn.
Bryan: Go Boating
Bryan originally moved to Destin for its beautiful beaches, but after living here for a while, he’s found that one of his favorite things to do in Destin for adults is to go boating. There are plenty of places to rent a pontoon boat from on the Destin Harbor, and riding around in the Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico is sure to be a highlight of your trip.
Joe: Paddle Board
Joe, our new head breakfast chef, said paddle boarding is one of the best things to do in Destin for adults. He and his wife were married on paddle boards just down the beach from Henderson Park Inn by Dolphin Reef, which is near Pompano Joe’s, so that’s his favorite place to paddle in the Gulf. Here you can see dolphins and sharks and dive for sand dollars. But if you’re looking for slightly calmer waters, he suggests Musset Bayou in the Bay where you can find porpoises, sting rays, redfish and more.
