5 Things to Do in Destin this Summer
It’s an odd time. Amongst a global pandemic, we at Henderson Park Inn know that you’re probably looking to get out of your home but are also concerned with ensuring the health and safety of yourself and loved ones.
Our beachfront hotel has implemented strict social distancing and cleaning policies and procedures that we believe are the best practices for keeping our guests healthy, but we know that you may be looking to explore Destin while staying with us, so we’ve compiled a list of five things to do in Destin this summer while keeping social distancing in mind.
1. Charter a Boat
Destin has a rich history as the luckiest fishing village in the world and is home to the largest charter fishing fleet in the US. So, while you’re here, you should definitely take advantage of the vast knowledge of the many captains in Destin and take a fishing trip. There are plenty of smaller, private boats where your only interaction will be with the captain and his or her first mate, and you’ll be out on the open water with plenty of ventilation and sun.
2. Kayak or Paddle Board
We’re called the Emerald Coast for a reason. Our waters are naturally beautifully and uniquely colored, and there’s nothing like bringing a kayak or paddle board out for an afternoon to explore our coast. It’s quickly becoming one of the best things to do in Destin this summer. We’ve heard reports of our guests being able to see all sorts of wildlife, including dolphins, while out for a paddle. And, it’s an activity you can do without being near other people.
3. Enjoy the Beach
Ok, this one might be a little obvious as one of the things to do in Destin this summer, but when in Destin, take advantage of our stunning beaches. While you may have seen reports come out of Florida of over-crowded beaches, that’s not representative of Henderson Park Inn’s beach. Our boutique hotel rests directly on a private, adults-only beach, and with only 37 rooms, only so many people have access to it. We set out complimentary chairs up six feet apart, too, so our beach is definitely the one you want to be on while social distancing.
4. Visit an Outdoor Mall
Even though locals joke that the Destin dome keeps our area from seeing rain, Destin does unfortunately occasionally see rain. When this happens, you may be looking to for things to do in Destin this summer with a little more cover. Thankfully, Destin is home to a few outdoor malls, and both Destin Commons and Silver Sands Outlets provide coverings in most of their space to help people get from store to store. Plus, with these two being outdoor malls, you don’t have to worry too much about the lack of ventilation in the space.
5. Walk through a State Park
Henderson Park Inn rests directly next to Henderson Beach State Park, which has miles of trails that wind through all of the beautiful plant life our area has to offer. Also, many other state parks are just a short drive from the Inn and feature Dune Lakes, which are a natural occurrence that can only be seen in a few places in the world.
Still, this is just a short list of what there is to do around Destin, and our staff is more than happy to help match you to activities that suit you. If you haven’t booked your room yet, be sure to visit our Accommodations page to secure your room.
