6 Tips for Disconnecting from Technology at Our Destin Florida Hotel
With a beautiful setting on the beach and lots of luxurious amenities, the Henderson Park Inn has everything you need for the perfect vacation. If you really want to enjoy your getaway at our Destin Florida hotel, however, it’s best to tune out the rest of the world as much as possible. Modern distractions such as email, text messages, and social media can intrude upon even the most romantic setting. To help you make the most of your vacation, we have put together six tips for disconnecting from technology when you stay with us.
1. Tie Up Loose Ends Before Your Vacation
It can be challenging to unplug from technology, especially if you go on vacation with a long list of unfinished projects. That’s why you should plan ahead and arrange it so you complete any urgent tasks and tie up your loose ends before you leave for your Destin vacation. Trust us, you’ll have a much more relaxing vacation knowing that everything is taken care of at work!
2. Direct Your Calls to Someone You Trust
If you know that certain issues must be dealt with while you’re on vacation, try to arrange it so that someone else can take care of them. You might ask an employee or coworker to handle work related issues while you’re away. You could have your emails and business calls forwarded to this person. A friend or family member might handle more personal matters. Unless it’s a life or death emergency, the world can survive without your presence for a few days.
3. Leave Your Laptop at Home
If you bring your laptop on vacation with you, it will be difficult to avoid the temptation of constantly checking your email and social media. Traveling without your laptop can free you from all this. If you have a smartphone, you can still get online if you have to. For any devices you do bring, consider turning off automatic notifications for incoming emails, phone calls, Facebook messages, etc.
4. Use Technology to Your Advantage
It may seem like a contradiction, but you can use technology to free you from technology. You can, for example, set up an autoresponder on your email so that people will get a message that you’re on vacation. Let them know when you’ll be back and suggest that they contact someone else at work if it’s an urgent matter. Another way to use technology to help you unplug is to use apps such as Freedom, which prevent you from accessing the internet for long periods of time. There are also apps, such as LeechBlock, that stop you from visiting certain sites that you find difficult to resist.
5. Take Pictures Now, Send Them Later
You will definitley want to take lots of pictures while you’re on your romantic vacation at our Destin Florida hotel. If you’re like many people, you’ll want to upload these photos to sites such as Facebook, Instagram, or Flickr. This habit, however, can keep you online for hours on end. After you post a photo, you’ll want to see who likes it or comments on it, and before you know it, you’ve spent an entire afternoon on your smartphone. One way to avoid this is to take all the photos you want but then wait to post them until your vacation is over. This way, you can preserve and share your memories without getting sucked back into your typical online activities.
6. Plan Short Online Sessions
If you cannot face the prospect of being completely offline during your vacation, you can do the next best thing. Plan a strict schedule where you go online only once or twice per day. Limit this to 15 minutes per session. This is plenty of time to check emails and, if necessary, send off a brief reply. This way, you won’t have to worry that you’re missing a crucial message.
While you won’t want to spend too much time on the internet during your vacation, there’s no harm in doing some online research before you leave. To learn about everything the Henderson Park Inn has to offer, check out our Destin Florida hotel amenities page!
