5 Facts About Our Beachfront Hotel in Destin Florida’s Stock the Pantry Fundraiser
Henderson Park Inn recently announced that we are partnering with local non-profit, Food For Thought, to help virtually stock its pantry for the 2020 school year with monetary donations in lieu of physical food donations.
It’s an incredibly worthy organization, and if you’d like to donate, you can visit our team page on Give Lively.
But, if you’d like to learn a little bit more about the organization and fundraiser in general before donating, we totally understand. Here are five facts about the fundraiser our beachfront hotel in Destin Florida is participating in:
1. Food For Thought feeds more than 3,330 students per week in Walton and Okaloosa Counties.
Its warehouse is in Santa Rosa Beach, which is about 15 minutes from our beachfront hotel in Destin Florida, but this 501(c)3 organization serves multiple counties, including the one Henderson Park Inn is in. They pack backpacks filled with healthy, easy-to-prepare meals to distribute to students who receive free or reduced school meals, ensuring these students do not go hungry.
2. Food For Thought has a wonderful mission statement.
Its mission is to remove the negative impacts of hunger to empower children to get the most out of their education and development by providing them weekly access to healthy, easy to prepare meals. Since 2010, it has been working to bridge the gap between school meals and what food a child has access to at home.
3. This year it’s a virtual fundraiser.
The Stock the Pantry Fundraiser is an annual event. They usually use this time to request physical food items, but due to restrictions regarding COVID-19, leadership decided to make it a virtual fundraiser and ask for funds in lieu of physical food donations. We know that our beachfront hotel in Destin Florida has an incredibly kind and generous group of guests across the country that would likely be willing to help out, so we signed up to be a team this year.
4. Its goal is to raise $150,000 before August 22.
In 2019, the Stock the Pantry fundraiser brought in more than $330,000 worth of food donations. This year, Food For Thought is hoping for $150,000 to purchase items for their pantry
to be able to provide food throughout the 2020 school year.
5. Food For Thought continued to provide food for children when COVID-19 closed schools in March.
Food For Thought continued to provide food to more than 600 families at five different locations within Okaloosa, which is where our beachfront hotel in Destin Florida is located, and Walton counties with curbside pickups when schools closed. Each week it provided at least 30 to 50 food items, including fresh produce in order to help fight the hunger gap, which has been growing due to the growth in unemployment.
If you’d like to help us virtually stock Food For Thought’s pantry, we’d love your support. Simply visit our team page on Give Lively to donate before August 22. And from all of us at Henderson Park Inn, thank you in advance for helping Food For Thought feed the hungry children in our area.
