5 Things to Pack for Destin Florida Weather in the Winter
Published on December 30, 2019
Weather is a volatile thing, and when planning a vacation, trying to figure out what to pack can be tricky. In Destin, we’re no exception to the rest of the country in that you never really know what you’re going to get.
Our winters vary. One day it could be 40 degrees and rainy, and the next is 70 and sunny. But, don’t be discouraged by our ever-changing weather forecast. Our winter weather is typically beautiful, resting in the upper 60s or low 70s during the day and dropping to the 40s or 50s at night.
Still, if you’re coming for a relaxing beach vacation in the winter, here are five things you’ll want to bring to best enjoy the Destin Florida weather:
1. Layers
Because the Destin Florida weather can be unpredictable, come prepared by packing plenty of clothing that can be added or taken way. Bring a few long-sleeve shirts and a sweatshirt or light jacket to make sure you stay warm even when the temperature drops.
2. Swimsuit & Coverup
While you likely won’t be swimming in the Gulf during your Destin winter vacation, you can still lounge on the beach in a bathing suit or enjoy the heated pool. You will, however, probably want a heavier cover up if the wind picks up.
3. Sunscreen
You should always protect your skin with sunscreen when lounging on the beach, regardless of the temperature. Even though it might feel a little colder, the sun is just as strong in the winter as it is in the summer. You can still get burned, so don’t leave the sunscreen at home.
4. Umbrella
While July and August typically see the highest amount of rain during the year, December and January can see some precipitation as well. July and August see daily short bursts of rain, but you’re more likely to see a single full day of rain in the winter. Having an umbrella on hand will keep your vacation running smoothly, regardless of the Destin Florida weather.
5. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes
Florida is the land of flip flops, but as the temperature drops in the evening or it starts to rain, you’ll be thankful for a good pair of closed-toe shoes to walk around in, even if they’re just to get around our property.
