5 Things to Do in Destin in the Fall as Told by Our Guest Services Agents

While things are still looking a little different in Destin from previous years due to COVID-19, there are still plenty of things to do in Destin in the fall. We asked our Guest Services agents to share some of their favorite events to attend in the area, and here’s what they suggest:

1. The Destin Fishing Rodeo

This annual event began in 1948 to help bring visitors to the area and helped Destin become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Destin is known as “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village” and is home to the largest charter fishing fleet in the country, so a fishing rodeo encompasses all of the best the area has to offer.

With 13 events beginning in September and running through early November, you’re bound to find a fishing rodeo related event when searching for things to do in Destin in the fall. Guest Services Agent Nathalee’s favorite part of the rodeo is strolling the harbor during the festivities and watching the weigh-ins.

2. 25th Annual Festival of the Arts

Known as one of Northwest Florida’s premier fine arts shows, the Mattie Kelly Art Foundation’s Festival of the Arts is one of the most anticipated cultural things to do in Destin in the fall. On October 24 and 25, guests can pay $5 to attend a celebration of the arts featuring music, food and, of course, art.

The funds from the festival assist in the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation’s efforts to support arts programs within the Destin community.

3. Farmers’ Markets

Northwest Florida is home to farmers’ markets that boast unique selections. While a standard farmers’ market might simply supply fresh fruits and vegetables grown by a local farmer, you’re more likely to see a larger variety of options in Destin. From locals that make fresh snapper dip to wind chimes, you can find just about anything at a farmers’ market around here. But, what makes this one of the best things to do in Destin in the fall is the unique atmosphere at our farmers’ markets. Complete with live music and a welcoming community feel, you’ll want to check out at least one while you’re in town.

4. The Coastal Distancing Tour

If you happen to rent a boat while you’re visiting, you’ll want to check out the Coastal Distancing Tour. This boat, music and movie tour provides free entertainment to boaters to enjoy on the water. The events kick off with live local music and then a movie to follow. For more information, contact Legendary Marine.

5. Sunsets on the Beach

Yes, ok, this one is a given, but the sunsets here in the fall are absolutely spectacular. There’s not another time of year that produces such crisp and vibrant colors in our skies, so we believe watching a sunset is one of the best things to do in Destin in the fall, even if it seems like an obvious choice.
